August 1st
7pm “Douglas Adams: Parrots, the Universe and Everything..- DVD, supper and discussion”                                                                             Blind river dolphins, reclusive lemurs, a parrot as fearless as it is lovelorn ... Douglas Adams' close encounters with these rare and unusual animals reveal that evolution, ever ingenious, can be fickle too --a University of California talk that sparkles with his trademark satiric wit.
In accidental spacefarers, bureaucratic aliens and depressed androids, the inimitable Douglas Adams gave a voice to the many facets of the human condition -- with sidesplitting (and bestselling) results.

An interactive evening discussion, with a few surprises. Every week, at our public evenings, we read an extract from The Freedom of Thought, a general Resolution by The Theosophical Society made in 1924. How many of us genuinely honour this? What are the Golden Stairs that Helena P Blavatsky says the learner climbs to The ‘Temple of Wisdom and what relevance do they have to Freedom of Thought, and the way you live your life."

John Dobson is inventor of the Dobsonian mount for the telescope mirror and he has revolutionised backyard astronomy.                                           Eccentric genius, he regards it as his mission to get people to look at the universe outside our world.
